The senator of the Socialist Party (PS) Fidel Espinoza critically addressed the role of the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, who recently came out to apologize for her statements in the Chamber of Deputies during the vote on the extension of the State Exception in the south.
“You cannot be apologizing every 15 days,” the PS legislator lashed out, adding that he would have preferred the current Segpres minister, Giorgio Jackson, in the Interior portfolio.

“I have an excellent opinion of her (Izkia Siches) as a professional, but I believe that, in the position that she was supposed to assume, I believe that many pieces have not meshed. Giorgio (Jackson) himself, perhaps, would have been a great Minister of the Interior,” Senator Espinoza told Radio Cooperativea.
“She could have been a great Minister of Health, but the Ministry of the Interior is highly sensitive… An Interior Minister cannot be apologizing every 15 days for something said or done. That has complicated the Government, which has to to be giving explanations and diverting the daily agenda that must always be to safeguard the interests of citizens”, added the socialist parliamentarian.
It is worth mentioning that after arriving at the Interior portfolio on March 11, the management of President Gabriel Boric’s chief of staff has been marked by a series of controversies that have led, among other things, to the opposition requesting his resignation.
