Aida Quilcué, indigenous leader and senator from the department of Cauca, suffered an attack when moving in a rural area of ​​the municipality of Inzá, on the border with Páez and La Plata (Huila)in the east of the region.

According to what was described by the same senator, At the time when he was traveling in a truck through the sector known as Guadualejo, armed men fired several shots against the car.

The driver managed to speed up, so, along with the indigenous leader, they emerged unharmed from the attack.

“I just suffered an attack, they shot at the truck in which I was traveling, near Guadualejo in Puerto Valencia,” he wrote through his Twitter account.

It should be noted that the name of the The senator has appeared in several of the pamphlets that have circulated in the department of Cauca, supposedly signed by different structures of the FARC dissidents. and other illegal armed groups.

The indigenous communities rejected this attack and asked the government to provide guarantees for life.

“It is not the first time that this type of event has occurred, that sector already has a history of attacks against different people. Once the situation occurred, we were able to contact a relative who confirmed that the senator is fine. The indigenous guard went to the site in order to provide protection”, said Edwin Mauricio Capaz, counselor of the CRIC, in dialogue with RCN Mundo.

Aida Quilcué has been senior counselor of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC) and elected by popular vote as Senator of the Republic by the indigenous communities.
