The Senate of the Republic faces a suspension in the expedition of aerial tickets for its members due to a delay in the payment of services hired by the Corporation, as confirmed by the General Senate Secretariat in an official statement issued on July 21, 2025.
In accordance with the document signed by Diego Alejandro González González, general secretary of the Corporation, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit has not made the payment corresponding to the invoice of the month of April 2025 to the company market and stock market, responsible for providing the air ticket office for Congress.

As a consequence, the Subatours SAS agency, intermediary in the management of tickets, has reported that it will not be able to guarantee new reservations as long as the values owed are not canceled.
The suspension directly impacts the mobility of senatorsespecially those from regions other than Bogotá, who depend on air transport to attend sessions, commissions and other legislative activities and although it has not been informed how many flights or reserves will be affected, the measure is a new reflection of the cash crisis faced by the Ministry of Finance.
This problem is expected to be solved as soon as possible from the government.

It should be noted that the statement does not mention an estimated date for the resumption of the service or details about additional efforts to solve this problem. Nor are pronouncements of the Ministry of Finance know compared to the payment delay or if there are other expired invoices in similar services.
This episode occurs right at the beginning of a legislative period, the last of the Petro administration, and in the middle of a high fiscal climate for the national government, with increasing signals of delays in payments to contractors and public entities; while criticisms have not been made in social networks.

New heads in the Senate and the Chamber
It should be noted that last weekend the Congress of the Republic renewed its board of directors for the last legislature of the Petro Government. In the Chamber, President Julián López (Part of the U) was elected, while the Senate elected the liberal Lidio García Turbay with 97 votes. Both will lead the key legislative discussions between 2025 and 2026, a year marked by fiscal tensions and crucial political definitions.
Julián López, new president of the Chamber, promised to be guarantor of rights and convert His mandate in Tribuna del Suroccident. He affirmed that he will promote debates on the law of competences, the reform of culture, the regulation of artificial intelligence and the new law of total peace. He insisted that the Chamber will be critical but responsible, and that its management will seek to close social gaps with a focus on justice and equity.

For its part, Lidio García Turbay reaches the presidency of the Senate again with a wide trajectory. A native of El Carmen de Bolívar, he has been a councilor, deputy, representative and senator. He stood out during his previous presidency in the pandemic for implementing mixed sessions and keeping Congress active. García, communicator and musician, represents the Caribbean and has been key in initiatives on energy, defense, remittances and social justice.
The outgoing president of the Chamber, Jaime Raúl Salamanca, highlighted the approval of 229 legislative initiatives during his management and asked to maintain unity against political polarization and added in turn, that the rise of García Turbay consolidates regional power at the cusp of Congress.
In this way, both scenarios show a congress that is reorganized for a complex legislative year, with key reforms and a government that seeks to save its agenda.
