The Senate Immigration Affairs Commission included in its 2026 work program meetings with authorities from the Secretariats of the Interior and Foreign Relations, as well as the National Migration Institute.
Citizen Movement senator Amalia García pointed out that Mexico is a country of origin, destination and transit of migrants, and that characteristic emphasizes the importance of guaranteeing their human rights, which is why it is convenient to meet with officials from said agencies.
Miguel Márquez Márquez, of the National Action Party, supported the proposal, in order to know the reality of the policies, economy and legal attention to migrants, who live a very complicated situation when they face, for example, repatriation, he emphasized.
The secretary of the commission, Moreno member Karina Isabel Ruiz, proposed visiting immigration stations on the northern border as part of the responsibilities to address the demands and requirements of the community moving to the United States.
María del Rocío Corona Nakamura, of the Green Party, asked that the country’s southern border also be taken into account, since “not everything is concentrated in the United States.”
