The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), reported today (29), in Brasília, that he ordered the installation of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Organized Crime for next Tuesday (4). It will investigate the structuring, expansion and functioning of organized crime with a focus on the actions of militias and factions.
“It is time to confront these criminal groups with the union of all institutions of the Brazilian State, ensuring the protection of the population in the face of the violence that threatens the country,” said Alcolumbre, in a statement.
According to the President of the Senate, the installation of the CPI was determined after understanding with Senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), one of the authors of the request for the creation of the commission.
Term of 120 days
The panel will be made up of 11 sitting senators and seven substitutes who will have a period of 120 days to investigate the activities, expansion and functioning of factions and militias in the country.
It will be up to senators to investigate the modus operandi (mode of operation) of criminal organizations, the conditions of installation and development in each region, “as well as the respective decision-making structures, in order to allow the identification of appropriate solutions to combat them, especially through the improvement of the legislation currently in force.”
