Santo Domingo. The Dominican Senate declared urgency and approved in two consecutive readings the bill that declares the need for a constitutional reformand orders the meeting of the National Review Assembly.
The constitutional reform project submitted by the Executive Branch was approved with 25 votes of the 27 senators present in the session. From now on, this project will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies for subsequent approval.
The president of the bicameral commission, Pedro Catrain, read the favorable report to the Senate Plenary, requesting that it be included in the day’s work, and declared urgent, for approval in two consecutive readings.

Dissenting report
In the legislative work this Friday, the president of the senators, Ricardo de los Santos, reported that “The Senate of the Republic is the house of democracy, and requested that a dissident report, presented by the Party bench, be included and read.” of the Dominican Liberation (PLD), in the Chamber of Deputies, represented by deputies Danilo Díaz and Mayobanex Martínez. It was rejected unanimously with a vote of 26 senators present in the session.
The regulations, from now on, contemplate the purpose of declaring the need for constitutional reform to modify articles 81, 166, 167, 169, 171, 178, 179, 209, 268, 274 of the Constitution, and adds a general provision as article 278, to review and add transitional provisions.
Furthermore, it guarantees stability over time to the Constitutional text and, in particular, to the current presidential election model, to prevent future modifications from affecting it, through the establishment of a system of locks and new general rules.
Also, review the composition and powers of the National Council of the Judiciary.
The initiative also indicates the consolidation of the constitutional autonomy of the Public Ministry, specializing its functions, establishing a new form of designation and adding requirements to be Attorney General of the Republic.
Also, it orders to unify the celebration of the presidential, congressional, municipal and other elective representatives elections, as well as to celebrate the inauguration of the election officials on the same date.
The plenary session also approved reviewing the composition and form of distribution of the Chamber of Deputies. As well as creating the Office of the Attorney General of the Public Administration, as a dependency of the Executive Branch.
Other initiatives
The Plenary approved in first reading the bill that declares various Churches in the country as Architectural Monuments, and modifies Law 492, which declares the Colonial City of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the area declared by decree No. 1650 of September 13, 1967. initiative presented by Senator Santiago Zorrilla.
In a single reading, the resolution requesting the Director General of Immigration, Venancio Alcántara Valdez, to install a provincial office of said institution in the Duarte province, presented by the senator of that province, Franklin Romero, was sanctioned.
