The Chamber of the Senate supported this Thursday the changes made by the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies to the project that regulates beekeeping activity. In this way, the Corporation dispatched the initiative to law.
The project -which was approved unanimously- aims to promote, protect and foster the sustainable development of beekeeping as a forestry and agricultural activity, through the regulation of the production and extraction of beekeeping products; the commercialization of beekeeping biological material; and pollination services from all bee hives in the national territory.
Among some of the changes introduced by the Lower House, is the incorporation of the concepts “Urban beekeeping” (beekeeping activity that takes place in the city or another population entity) and “Area or beekeeping zone” (that area, road or place susceptible to beekeeping).
It also incorporates, in the definition of the extraction process, not only the one that allows the separation of bee products from the devices that contain them, but also the activity that allows them to be obtained.
The Minister of Agriculture, Stephen Valenzuela, celebrated the approval of the project. “I express our gratitude to the Congress of the Republic, the Chamber and the Senate, which have unanimously culminated in supporting the Beekeeping Law, which was worked on for many years and which seeks to relieve this activity and its strategic contribution to our agriculture” , held.
The head of Agriculture highlighted the challenges that can be worked on thanks to the approval of the law. “Achieve transparent markets with collaboration between the actors. As a State we have to collaborate more proactively, as the SAG and INDAP do, and with this law we take a greater leap. By the way, highlighting the importance of traceability and safety”, he commented.
