Senate ratifies Quirino Ordaz Coppel as Mexican ambassador to Spain

Quirino Ordaz Coppelformer governor of Sinaloa, was ratified by the Senate as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Mexico against Spain and Andorraand as permanent representative of Mexico before the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), based in Madrid.

The now Mexican ambassador in Madrid had been proposed for that position by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The plenary session of the Senate ratified Quirino Ordaz Coppel by 74 votes in favor of the Morena, MC, PT, PVEM and PES parties. Twenty PAN members, PRI members, emecistas and PRD members voted against the appointment, plus 12 abstentions from various parties.

During the discussion of the corresponding opinion, the PRI parliamentary group opted not to establish its position in the tribune due to the differences of opinion regarding voting against the appointment of the former governor of Sinaloahis former party partner, in compliance with the resolution of the National Political Council (CPN) of the PRI.

The PRI members expressed their internal division on the voting board; while Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, the coordinator of the bench, voted against along with Claudia Anaya, Manuel Añorve, Verónica Martínez and Mario Zamora, the rest did so in abstention: Eruviel Ávila, Sylvana Beltrones, Beatriz Paredes, Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín and Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas.

In justifying the opinion, Héctor Vasconcelos, president of the Foreign Relations Commission, and on behalf of the European Foreign Relations Commission, chaired by Gabriela Benavides, said that by majority it was determined that Ordaz Coppel has the correct profile to revitalize the relationship with Mexico. with Spain.

“His more than 30 years of experience in public service, including positions such as federal deputy and governor of Sinaloa, empower him to carry out his new task successfully.”

Then he asked the plenary chamber to ratify the appointment of the Sinaloan. After the vote, Ordaz Coppel took office by submitting the legal protest before the full Senate.
