“Mexico will advocate the peaceful solution of controversies and the promotion of regional peace and security and will continue to promote that the General Secretariat of the organization act impartially, generating bridges of understanding between the countries of the hemisphere in order to avoid partial positions or particular interests,” said the politician.
Encinas highlighted the role of the OAS as the maximum political forum of dialogue of the Americas, especially at a time when multilateralism, cooperation and international solidarity have been reduced.
It will also promote problems that impact Mexico and southern countries such as drug trafficking, illicit arms traffic, human trafficking and migrants traffic.
With Sheinbaum as the first elected woman as president in Mexico, the new representative of the country before the OAS said that she will seek that all the body’s decisions are taken with a gender perspective, and substantive equality.
“Mexico’s mission to the OAS will comply with the presidential mandate to prop up Mexico’s leadership in this organization and contribute to its strengthening to improve its impact on the region,” he said.
To assume the position in the Organization of American States, based in Washington, United States, Encinas will leave its position as secretary of Planning, Territorial Planning and Metropolitan Coordination in the Government of Mexico City, which it occupied after being appointed by the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, as of October 2024.
