Shortly after telling journalists that all federative entities and Petrobras need to get involved in a discussion about reducing the fuel priceSenate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) said on Twitter that he does not consider privatization of the state-owned company “on the radar” at this time.
“In relation to the privatization of Petrobras, I have already said and I reiterate that I think it is essential that we have a study on the possibility, the deepening of models and analyses. But I do not consider that privatization of the company is on the radar or on the discussion table at this moment”, he said on the social network.
This morning (12), the Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, handed over to the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, a request to start the Petrobras privatization studies and Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA), the state-owned company responsible for marketing the oil and gas extracted from the pre-salt layer. Yesterday (11), the minister, recently sworn in, said that he will prioritize studies for the privatization of Petrobras and Pré-Sal Petróleo SA
If the government manages to proceed with the privatization process of Petrobras, Congress will be one of the steps. In 2019, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided that the privatization of state-owned companies must be approved by deputies and senators. Also according to the Court, only subsidiaries can be sold without authorization from parliament.
In the morning, Pacheco spoke with journalists after receiving members of the National Committee of Secretaries of Finance, Finance, Revenue or Taxation of the States and Federal District (Consefaz). He preferred not to blame the fuel increase, defending that “there is no villain and good guy in this story”.
