The Federal Senate officialized, on Thursday (4), the removal of Senator Marcos do Val (Somos-ES) of legislative activities for 115 days for “health treatment”. The medical board of the house complied with a request from the senator, who continues to receive salary.
Marcos do Val is investigated in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for allegedly promoting a campaign to intimidate and embarrass federal police responsible for in progress investigations in the Supreme. He is also suspected of architecting a plan to nullify the 2022 elections.
“The facts are linked to a campaign of institutional attacks against the Supreme Court and the Federal Police, including the dissemination of personal data of delegates working in investigations in the Court,” the STF explained.
In a note published at the end of last month, Durval claimed that he asked for a license to take care of the family.
“I requested a temporary license from the Federal Senate to be next to my mother, who fights cancer, and my father, who underwent delicate surgery. Also to be closer to my daughter, whom I have unconditional love, and who needs a father present at this important moment of his teens,” he said on a social network.
Durval was forced to wear an electronic anklet and had bank accounts blocked after breaking the Supreme decision and traveling to the United States. He was forbidden to leave the country due to investigations against him. However, one Senate sewn with the Supreme Court suspended part of the limitations imposed on the parliamentarian.
The senator returned to use social networks, as long as he does not attack the Democratic Rule of Law, and resumed his bank accounts and salary. However, the prohibition of leaving Brazil was maintained.
The license request was cited by STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes in the decision to suspend part of the limitations imposed.
“The petition presented by the law of the Federal Senate was accompanied by a copy of the license request that Marcos do Val referred to the president of the Federal Senate, emphasizing the temporary disability to exercise the mandate of Senator of the Republic and expressing his respect to the Democratic Rule of Law and democratic institutions,” says the document.
