Just ten days to conclude the current legislature, The Senate of the Republic decided to postpone knowledge in the second discussion of the bills that reinforce and update the Criminal Code and the Labor Code.
The presidents of both commissions explained that the decision not to sanction the initiative during the ordinary session of yesterday, as planned, responds to new modification proposals presented by sectors linked to the reforms.
In the case of the Criminal Code, the president of the Bicameral Commission, Santiago Zorrilla, indicated that he is waiting for a proposal by the Attorney General’s Office, although he did not offer details about the specific points that will be addressed.
Despite the delay, the senator assured that there should be no concern about whether he will give the time to approve the piece in both chambers, since there is the political will to be approved before the legislative closure.
“There is always time when there is political will and the will is. The decision is that in this legislature there will be Criminal Code and Labor Code,” said Zorrilla, who also said that the piece could be sanctioned in the session next Thursday.
Regarding the Labor Code, the president of the Commission, Rafael Barón Duluc Rijo, explained that after the full reading of the modifications to the project, the business sector expressed rejection that the current work -timing scheme is maintained.

In the same way, he indicated that the commission is open to listen to the working sector, in case it has some suggestion or complaint to express.
“We have to understand that these processes are never totally agreed, nor is it beneficial for all sectors, but Congress has to look for a kind of balance and I think a good code will come out for the country,” said the legislator.
