The Chamber of Senators called an extraordinary session for this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. after the company Vertical Skies requested the former head of presidential custody, Alejandro Astesiano, to put together “two files” with personal information to “tie up” legislators and prevent them from taking the concession of the port to the Katoen Natie company to court.
“The Chamber of Senators will meet, at the request of several Senators, in an extraordinary session tomorrow, Thursday, December 1, at 5:30 p.m., to learn about the matters entered and in order to raise a question of privileges in repudiation of practices incompatible with a democratic system (spying carried out on two members of this Corps, Senators Mario Bergara and Charles Carrera)“, confirms the Parliament’s website.
The session was called after the inter-party meeting that was held this Wednesday in the Senate in which “all the parties expressed their rejection,” said Vice President Beatríz Argimón. However, the request for the session was convened only with the 11 signatures of the Broad Front.
In principle, there were some doubts on the part of Argimón that the session could be held given that on Thursday it was planned to receive different delegations to discuss the reform of the pension system. “Let’s wait for the call for tomorrow because it is a very important issue for us and the institutionality“, pointed out the senator from the Front, Lilián Kechichian.
The call did not go down well with some members of the ruling party. “When there was a logical consensus to show solidarity with the senators who appeared in Astesiano’s chat, the Broad Front intends to convey that there was espionage in our government. Let them investigate everything, but let them report to the committee. I do not lend myself to the mess“said the nationalist senator, Sebastián Da Silva on his Twitter account.
