Bill (PL) 3,965/2021 advanced in the Senate, which, when sanctioned, will enable the use of amounts collected through traffic fines to pay for the driver’s license of low-income people, registered in the Single Registry for Federal government Social Programs.
The proposal was approved this Wednesday (18) by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and is now in plenary. As the matter underwent changes during its processing in the Senate, it will return to the house of origin (Chamber of Deputies) after approval.
Among the changes is the requirement for a toxicological test to renew the license of all categories of professional drivers – including those who work in individual transport companies.
Qualified embezzlement
Another matter approved by the CCJ is the one that provides for increased penalties for crimes of qualified embezzlement, when there is misappropriation of resources in the areas of health, education or security.
Currently, the penalty is two to 12 years in prison. PL 1,038/24 provides for imprisonment of four to 16 years, in addition to the imposition of a fine.
The same penalty will be applied in situations of criminal responsibility, if committed by mayors.
