Senate approves MP with permanent floor of R$ 400 for Auxílio Brasil

During the vote, the senators discussed the growth of hunger and misery in Brazil. Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco praised the rapporteur, Soraya Thronicke (União-MS), for expressing that the small amount of the minimum is a serious problem for Brazilian society, but it is less debated than “ideological quarrels on social networks”.

Citing data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the reporter highlighted that more than 60 million Brazilians receive up to two minimum wages, about 70% of the employed population. Already data from the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) indicate that 25 million people receive pensions in the amount of a minimum wage, “that is, two thirds of Social Security beneficiaries”. For the senator, Brazil needs to recreate a policy of valuing the minimum wage.
