This Thursday (18th), the Senate approved the bill that changes the limits of the Brasília National Forest (Flona), in the Federal District. The matter goes on for consideration by the Chamber of Deputies.
Authored by senator Izalci Lucas (PSDB-DF), the text excludes 4,000 hectares of land for urban land regularization and establishment of a new modality of conservation unit. The project also foresees the expansion of approximately 3,753 hectares of the forest and the expansion of the Contagem Biological Reserve, which becomes a national park.
As a counterpart to the changes, the project establishes the extension of the limits of the Brasília National Forest to the Currais Stream, comprising an approximate total area of 3,753 hectares.
The proposal authorizes the maintenance activities of the water catchment of the Santa Maria Dam; in the Chapada da Contagem region, members of the Chapada da Contagem National Park; and in the region of the Rio Descoberto basin in the interior of the Brasília National Forest, operated by the Companhia de Saneamento Ambiental do Distrito Federal (Caesb).
For the rapporteur, senator Leila Barros (Cidadania-DF), the project brings “environmental gains in the form of acquisition of ecologically sensitive areas that have been providing relevant ecosystem services”.
According to the senator, one of the areas modified by the proposal was occupied by the settlement “26 de Setembro”, so that its original environmental conditions have been disfigured for a long time and, therefore, there is no reason to keep it as a nature conservation unit, from the point of view. from a technical-environmental point of view.
