Senate approves in second reading project to return ITBIS to tourists

Santo Domingo.- The plenary of Senate approved in second reading the Draft Law on the Refund of the Tax on the Transfer of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS) to foreign tourists.

The regulation, presented by the Vice President of the Senate, Santiago José Zorrilla of El Seibo, has the purpose of disposing of the return of the ITBIS foreign tourists and non-residents in the country.

This in order to make purchases of domestic or imported goods, and establish sanctions for those who falsify information for said return.

According to the bill, the piece will stimulate and increase the consumption by tourists of products made in the Dominican Republic, because the tourism sector is one of those with the greatest potential in the country.

The piece will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies.

In another order, the plenary session presented the members of the Senate’s Permanent Commission on Economy, Planning and Development, which between August 2022 and August 2024 is made up of senators Eddy Nolasco (Valverde), president; Milcíades Franjul (Peravia), Vice President; Faride Raful (National District), secretary; Franklin Rodriguez (San Cristobal); Virgilio Cedano (La Altagracia); Pedro Catrain (Samaná); Felix the Baptist (Saint John); Mr. Ricardo de los Santos (Sánchez Ramírez); and Alexis Victoria (María Trinidad Sánchez).
