Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Senate approved this Wednesday in first reading the draft Special Law for the Completion of the Multiple Project of the Montegrande Dam, sent by the Executive Power.
In the session, the president of the Senate’s Permanent Finance Committee, Faride Raful, presented a favorable report to the Plenary on the bill, which was approved with a vote of 18 votes from 28 senators present.
The regulations authorize the Executive Power to have more resources for the execution of the Multiple Project of the Montegrande Dam and the Rehabilitation and Complementation of the Sabana Yegua Dam, in addition to the consulting services contract for the supervision works of Phase III of the play.
Other initiatives
The Senate also approved in first reading the Law Project that Frees from All Types of Import Taxes the Gifts that Foreign Residents Bring to the Country on the Occasion of the Christmas, New Year and Summer Holidays of Each Year, presented by Senator Franklin Rodríguez (San Cristóbal).
The project indicates that the Dominican diaspora has become one of the most important contributors to the country’s economy. In addition, it establishes in its article 2 that none of the gifts must jointly exceed the equivalent of one thousand dollars.
Also, the senators approved in second reading the Bill that Establishes the Applicable Regime for the Regulation of the Public Trust in the Dominican Republic, an initiative sent by the Executive Power.
The purpose of the project is to establish the regulation of the public trust, its organization, structure and operation, as well as its legal capacity to manage public resources and provide, manage and/or execute infrastructure works and projects or services of collective interest.
Minute of silence
Likewise, the senators kept a minute of silence for the death of the renowned television producer Augusto Guerrero; for the children and teachers who died in the shooting at an elementary school in a town in Texas, United States; for the death of Basilio Ramos and Génesis Altagracia Gómez Martínez in the flooding of the Camú River in La Vega; and by Mrs. Salustina Henríquez Núñez, mother of the person in charge of the Department of Elaboration of Minutes of the Senate.
