In the legislative work this Thursday, the Senate Plenary approved in second reading the project that declares September 23 of each year “National Baseball Player Day, in honor of Don Osvaldo José Virgil Pichardo, who had the distinction of being the first Dominican to play in the big leagues, on September 23, 1956, an initiative presented by the senator of the Duarte province, Franklin Romero.

The purpose of the senator’s regulations for the Duarte province is to honor the baseball player Osvaldo Virgil, born on May 17, 1932, in the Montecristi province.

In the Major Leagues he debuted with the New York Giants team in the 1956-1957 season. On that occasion, Virgil gallantly defended third base against the Philadelphia Phillies team.

The resolution that requests President Luis Abinader to instruct the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, and the Integrated Council of the Center for Comprehensive Care for Disability (CAID), to install a CAID center in the Consuelo municipality was sanctioned in a single reading. , San Pedro de Macorís province.

The senators approved in a single reading the resolution that grants a scroll of recognition to the boxer Yunior Alcántara Reyes, for having won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an initiative presented by Senator Rafael Barón Duluc.

Likewise, the Senate approved in a single reading the bill that requests President Luis Abinader to instruct the president of the Presidential Commission for Provincial Development, for the construction and equipment of a funeral home in the city of Hato Mayor del Rey, an initiative of Senator Cristóbal Venerado Castillo.

In the legislative work, the resolution that recognizes Juana Chalas Mercedes for her career and contribution to the National Confectionery, presented by Senator Santiago Zorrilla, was also approved.

The legislators sanctioned the resolution that recognizes the boxer Cristian Javier Pinales, for having participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, obtaining a bronze medal in the 80 kg category, presented by Senator Edward Espiritusanto.

The Senate Plenary held a minute of silence in honor of the memories of the singer Raffy Matías and the announcer Randy Reyes, natives of La Vega.

The president called a session for next Wednesday, the 16th of this month, at 2:00 in the afternoon.
