After the rains increased the flow of rivers in northern Chile, mainly in the Province of El Loa, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) decided to implement the Emergency Alert System (SAE) alarm ).
It should be noted that in the face of this meteorological phenomenon called “Altiplanic Winter”, the General Directorate of Water (DGA) maintains constant monitoring of the rivers and, if its flow increases, Senapred will activate the SAE messaging to alert the evacuation on the mobile phones of people in risk areas.
In this context, the regional director of the organization, Ricardo Munizaga, indicated that “SAE messaging is prepared to activate in case of flooding of the river, increase in flows or banks that may be affected.”
He also added that “for this we take the technical information from the competent bodies and, with that, we alert the polygon where the people who may be affected are located.”
Finally, he specified that the message will be available to all companies, that is, Entel, Movistar, Claro and Wom, “and they will receive it the minute the area needs to be cleared. The collaboration that is needed in people is that they be attentive with their cell phones. Obviously those who are close to the rivers, and avoid being close to them as much as possible”.
