Senapred cancels red alert for the Biobío Region due to forest fires after a month of validity

The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) canceled on Monday night the red alert for the Biobío Region due to forest fires, which had been in force since February 3. The Service decreed a yellow alert for the region.

Senapred reported in a statement that, according to information from the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) regarding active fires in the Biobío Region, “the direct threat to homes is considered to have been overcome, while a decrease in the simultaneity of of fires in the area.

In addition, the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) foresees that during the next few days the Biobío Region will register a decrease in maximum temperatures, together with the development of cloudiness and the probability of occurrence of weak precipitations. “These antecedents allow us to assume a decrease in the risk associated with forest fire events,” indicated Senapred.

With this information, Senapred, in coordination with the Biobío Presidential Delegation, canceled the red alert for the region and issued a yellow alert.

With the yellow alert “the necessary resources will be kept staggered, in additional support to what has already been deployed by Conaf, Firefighters and the National Disaster Prevention and Response System, in order to prevent the event from growing in extension and severity, minimizing the negative effects on people, their property and the environment”, pointed out from Senapred.

Senapred reported Tuesday morning that forest fires have affected an area of ​​205,219 hectares in the Biobío Region. In turn, the accidents left 17 dead in the area.
