Senamhi declares a red alert for the north of La Paz and orange for eight departments

Given the constant rains and the flooding of the rivers The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) declared a red alert for the north of La Paz and orange for the rest of the departments -except Oruro- in its forecast from February 7 to 12.

The overflow of rivers has so far left two dead, 5,550 families affected and 75 houses destroyed in the three most affected departments: La Paz, Santa Cruz and Beni. The latest Senamhi report indicates red alert for northern communities La Paz: Tipuani, Chima, Bartolo, Guanay, Guanay, Angosto Quercano, Mapiri, Teoponte and Mayaya, before the flooding of the Tipuani, Mapiri and Kaka rivers.

In the case of Santa Cruz, the affected will be the Rio Grande, and secondary tributaries; Senamhi predicts: “Ascents with possible level overflows in areas close to the towns of: Juntas, Lagunillas, Cabezas, Abapó, Pailas, Okinawa, Cuatro CanadasSan Julián and nearby towns”.

The affected areas of Bolivia were displaced more than 139 tons of humanitarian aid which, in economic terms, represents more than one million Bolivians. Likewise, there is a budget of more than 20 million to face the situation, according to government data.
