The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) activated a red alert for the possible occurrence of Huaicos in the next few hours. This entity warns that this phenomenon will be recorded by the heavy rains that affected several regions of the country.
According to its short-term notice No. 042-2025, issued on Wednesday, February 19, there are high probabilities that an activation of ravines occurs, which would be associated with forecast rainfall for the next 24 hours.
Senamhi believes that the rains of the last week, such as susceptibility to mass movements in unstable places, would result in the occurrence of Huaicos in various areas of our country.
According to the entity, the Tumbes region has a yellow alert, this suggests a moderate severity in the activation of streams.
On the other hand, the departments of Amazonas, Ancash, Huánuco, Ica, La Libertad and Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Pasco, Tacna and Ucayali have an orange alert, which estimates a strong severity with respect to the Huaicos.
However, the situation acquires a higher level of danger in several areas of Ayacucho, Cajamarca and Cusco. These regions have a red alert, which suggests an extreme severity due to intense rains in unstable areas.
“Review emergency procedures. Reprogram activities in areas exposed to the impact of ravines activation. Protect goods and homes. Be attentive to official information and follow instructions from the competent authorities”, Read between the warnings of Senamhi.
