Senafront has installed more than 4 kilometers of fences to close illegal crossings in Darien

Since the beginning of July, the National Border Service has been carrying out the Darién Campaign nationwide, highlighting Operation Dyöbari, which in the Emberá language means “defenders of people and land” carried out in the province of Darién and the Guna Yala region, with the aim of maintaining territorial control on land and sea borders, combating drug trafficking and environmental crimes and the impacts generated by human mobility, which are affected due to transnational organized crime that attempts to operate and influence our country.

Criminal groups are the main generator of high-impact crimes in border regions, so it is appropriate to carry out operational actions such as these, which are aimed at combating these scourges in all their forms and maintaining a rapprochement and community integration with border populations, which represent our territorial control center.

“We have channeled the flow of migrants through a humanitarian corridor that the national government has defined as the Cañas Blancas River slope. We have developed in-depth operations on the border with Colombia, enclosing 4.7 kilometers that included more than 5 clandestine crossings used by organized crime to move migrants from Colombia to Panama,” said Jorge Gobea, director of SENAFRONT.

The operational results obtained during the first 15 days of management were also presented:

81 packages of drugs
208 doses of illicit substances
99 arrested
01 firearm
02 boats and five cars
B/ 1,200.17
20 raids carried out in conjunction with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

On the other hand, thanks to community integration and the rapid action of the units in Barriales, Darién province, a two-month-old child was recovered safe and sound, after being abducted from his home by two unknown persons, who were in possession of a firearm.

Regarding the controlled flow operation and the effective management of the irregular migration phenomenon, we report that we have developed important preventive actions, establishing a partial blockade of unauthorized crossings, channeling human mobility towards a humanitarian corridor that has allowed us to maximize the protection of this vulnerable population. To mention six humanitarian actions for the protection of migrants were carried out. In addition, we maintain permanent patrols in these sectors, counteracting the action of transnational organized crime.

Thanks to biometric systems, three migrants with alerts were detected, they were related to Los Choneros, Los Lobos and one of them was a demobilized member of the FARC, in addition 14 people with criminal records were detected.

It should be noted that the people detected through the different biometric verification systems came from nationalities such as Colombia, Ecuador, Afghanistan, Pakistan, referred for various crimes such as drug trafficking, arms trafficking, sexual abuse, migrant trafficking and homicide.

The National Border Service units work hard 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in the frontal fight against drug trafficking, migrant trafficking and other related crimes, treading firmly, thus guaranteeing security and social peace in our areas of responsibility at the national level.
