So far this government, the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) assured that drug seizures have increased on the Mexican coast, mainly cocaine, derived from the seizures made by naval personnel at sea.
Through a count Semar informed that in the present administration there has been an increase in the seizures of cocaine carried out by the Mexican Navy; since in the previous administration approximately more than 39 tons of this drug were seized, while from 2019 to date, the figure of more than 46 tons of illegal substance that is seized by maritime elements has already been reached.
According to Marine, to achieve these assurances, maritime, air and land units have been deployed: oceanic, coastal and interceptor patrols, various vessels; in addition to planes and helicopters of the Mexican Navy to carry out air and maritime patrols; as well as Marine Infantry personnel, to enforce the rule of law at sea, thus preventing criminal groups operating on Mexican coasts from strengthening their operational capabilities.
The agency reported that there are 4,906 people detained in possession of probable illicit cargo; while almost 40 tons of marijuana and more than 141 tons of methamphetamine have been seized.
Meanwhile, 384.6 tons of chemical precursors for the production of synthetic drugs have left the market; 356 kilograms of fentanyl and 1,521 weapons have been seized by personnel from the Mexican Navy.
While so far this year, approximately 47,795 liters of fuel have been secured on national coasts, which would presumably be used to supply vessels that carry illicit cargo at sea. As well as 48 boats and 109 outboard motors, they have been insured in this 2022.
“These actions have been carried out in coordination with the competent authorities, in a coordinated work of the Naval Commands that make up both coasts, carrying out decisive operations that contribute to weakening the economic and financial structure of criminal groups that operate in our country, for the benefit of Mexican society,” said Semar.
