Self-referential

Self-referential

Book “Why NOT to me?” will be presented this afternoon at the Cultural Center

This is a work by María Eugenia Álvarez, an education worker, English Teacher and Bibliographic Guidance Teacher who currently works in High Schools 1 and 2 in the city of Colonia, her hometown.

“Why NOT Me?” is her first book, the one she began writing a few months after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Although it is self-referential, it not only describes his experience, but also draws parallel lines to other stories and paths that he discovered in his existential journey.

The prologue of this book was written by the sports journalist and narrator, Víctor Hugo Morales.

“This work, which is really like a third child because I already have Joaquín, 25, Margarita, 21, and now he came Why NOT me? This story of breast cancer, as the cover of the book says, whose designer was precisely Margarita, but which is not only the story of what happened to me between 2022 and 2023 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and everything that came after -surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy-, but also that in some way lines are drawn towards other stories of oncological patients who crossed my life just as I crossed theirs throughout that period and also They weave threads towards other parts of my life, towards my childhood, towards the history with my family and friends, that support network that luckily I knew how to have at the time of the illness.” told to THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL the author.

“My children were accompanying because they were already grown and now they are witnesses of this publication, which for me is something wonderful” added the Professor María Eugenia Álvarez.

“At first it was difficult because I was recording during the darkest process of oncological treatments. I always mention chemotherapy in this way, because it is the most invasive part. I was detained in time and space between treatments, hospitals and my home, I was not working, and the lives of others continued their course as it should. There I began to record what was happening to me as a form of therapy as well, then it became a paragraph, a chapter and finally it was a book.” he commented.

“At that time I met Patricia Díaz Garbarino who is a literary style editor from the city of Colonia. We didn’t know each other, I saw a publication of hers, I got in touch and showed her the material. She told me that it had to be a book” express.

Last September 11, why NOT me? It was presented in the department of Colonia and has also been presented in other places. “What better place than to close it with the help of Mamitas Arachanas in Melo this Friday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the National Cultural Center” summoned.

“The invitation is for everyone, free, completely free. They will be accompanying me. I know that they do wonderful work in Melo. The idea was to close October Rosa Month with the presentation of my book, of this testimony, of this story that I believe that in some way goes through all of us in society, not only the cancer patients, but also the family, those who have not gone through it but who have gone through other storms perhaps, those storms that break us in some way in life and they make us move forward in a different way, changed, with another vision, another perspective on life. My storm was called breast cancer, there are other storms with other names.” said María Eugenia Álvarez.
