The Colombian Geological Service reported an increase in the seismic activity of the Nevado del Ruiz and El Cerro Machín volcanoes, located between the departments of Caldas, Tolima and Cundinamarca.

A press release from Colombian Geological Service notes that, “from Friday, December 2, 2022at 10:16 am, in the Nevado del Ruiz Volcano there is an increase in the activity associated with the movement of fluids inside the volcano. This phenomenon has been characterized by the recording of seismic signals related to gases and ash.
The entity explains that these processes have been evidenced through the cameras that it has installed in the snow-capped area and the same reports from inhabitants of the area of volcanic influence.
Add the statement that the height of the ash column has permanently exceeded 900 meters and, in some cases, it has reached 2,900 meters.
Clarifies that It is not ruled out that the volcano continues emitting gases and ash into the atmosphere, and they will be dispersed according to the prevailing wind regime at the time of the phenomenon and an acceleration of seismic activity is not ruled out either.
