The Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) reported that between October 2024 and until August it has managed to stop more than 14 million cyber attacks to its website as well as its internal systems.
In his work report for the first year of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Mexican Army reported that “it contained 14 million 150,266 cyber attack events that tried to violate its web portal, institutional email, Axolotl-Drive storage server, among others, highlighting attempts for intrusion and scanning of vulnerabilities, malicious emails and phyishing (Technique used in order to deceive users to obtain access information) ”.
In the document, the Army, which was violated by the Guacamaya hacktivist group, which disseminated six information the tenderness contained in the institution’s mail servers in 2023, reported that the attacks violate the institutional reputation.
“The increase in cyber attacks on technological infrastructure in different sectors in Mexico and countries in the world has had consequences that affect not only its operation, but also its reputation and institutional image,” he said.
He said that among the most common impacts that systems hack has are the “loss of sensitive data, interruption of computer systems operation, financial impact, legal consequences and/or that the Information and Communications Technology Infrastructure (ICT), is used as an attack platform towards other technological infrastructure”.
They analyze systems
The Sedena also reported that the operations center of the cyberspace of the General Staff of the National Defense carried out two evaluations in security of the online army sites as well as the services it offers through them, after which more than 80 alert bulletins were issued to the institution’s staff.
He explained that they disseminated “46 malicious activity bulletins, to strengthen the capacities of cyber -cyber -detection tools”
As well as another 37 commitment bulletins obtained through activities to search for malicious activities and/or phishing campaigns, for the timely detection and blockade of cyber attacks ”to the National Defense Secretariat.
Border security
The Sedena reported that she is in charge, during the six -year term of Sheinbaum, of the containment of migrants who reach the south of the country and that they seek to enter to reach the border with the United States.
In this context, he indicated that he maintains two command positions for the migratory issue, one in the southern border a coordinating center called “Suchiate” was established under the commander of the VII Military Region, in Tapachula, Chiapas, in addition to the Coordinating Center appointed “Rio Bravo” under the command of the IV Military Region located in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Some “11,000 members of the Army, Air Force and National Guard throughout the national territory provide security to the agents of the National Migration Institute during the performance of their humanitarian containment and rescue activities of migrants,” he explained.
Regarding the containment of migrants, the Sedena reported that, between October 2024 and August, it contained 717,377 migrants, of which 685,198 were located on the southern border and 32,179 on the northern border.

The Sedena also reported that in order to protect public security, it maintains deployed, in the aforementioned period, at 34,160 army troops and 83,326 of the National Guard.
These elements have achieved the assurance of 12,241 firearms; 2 million 283,550 cartridges; 581 grenades; 19,268 vehicles; 400 kg of fentanyl, 3’568,334 fentanyl pills; 41,721 kg of methamphetamine; 12,285 kg of cocaine; 50,790 kg of marijuana; 79 laboratories, and 1,133 concentration areas of chemical precursors; 178 million 279,000 pesos and 9 million 602,000 US dollars.
