By 2025, the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) plans to build 120 thousand homes and carry out 100 thousand housing improvement actions for a six-year goal of one million houses and 450 thousand housing rehabilitations, reported the Undersecretary of Urban Development , Victor Hugo Hoffman.
The official explained that there is already a territorial reserve made up of 261 properties, which represents the entire surface area required for the construction of houses in 2025, which represents 2,584 hectares. Additionally, another 56 properties are analyzed in terms of whether they have access to infrastructure, and whether they have proximity to education, culture and health services.
When presenting the housing program for 2025, President Claudia Sheinbaum asserted that in the case of housing improvement actions, the aim is to focus on the eastern area of the state of Mexico, where 10 million people reside.
For his part, the director of Infonavit, Octavio Romero Oropeza, reported that the reform to the law that governs the organization to have a construction company is about to be approved.
On the other hand, he stressed that at Infonavit there is a portfolio of around 6.2 million housing loans; of which, 4 million were granted under conditions in which the beneficiaries paid interest and capital, but instead of decreasing the amounts of their credit, they increased. Therefore, actions will be taken to restructure: reduce debt, interest and other measures.
In turn, the head of Financiera para el Bienestar, Rocío Mejía, said that loans for workers who earn between one and two minimum wages will have zero percent interest rates.
