According to the Minister of Security, Juan Manuel Pino, taking these weapons off the streets saves lives and prevents other crimes from being committed.

So far this year, the Public Security agencies have seized 1,732 firearms and 62,264 in different operations carried out nationwide and 500 people in possession of them have been arrested, as announced by the Ministry of Public Security (minsec).

According to the report, the provinces with the most seizures of firearms are: Panama (912), Colón (300), Panamá Oeste (156) and Chiriquí (111).
