Special forces and tactical units of the security forces began this Thursday the fourth phase of “Caribbean Operation”, aimed at reinforcing operational actions and expanding the reaction capacity against criminal gangs and organized crime dedicated to drug trafficking and the commission of common crimes.
With a deployment of more than 150 units of the National Police, the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) and the National Border Service (Senafront), the aim is to reinforce police actions to minimize the incidence of crime in the province of Colon and maintain security and social peace among residents.
Last year the security forces seized more than 128 tons of drugs and of those 60 were seized in the province of Colón. In addition, 172 people were captured (85) for homicide, (87) for attempted homicide and more than 220 were prosecuted, 321 firearms and 3,595 ammunition were also seized.
In terms of prevention, the Ministry of Security develops the Comprehensive Citizen Security Plan in Alto de Los Lagos and in other sectors of the province, so that young people participate in sports activities, in order to prevent them from being victims of criminal organizations.
