Medellín adds six homicides in 2026 and authorities are investigating whether there was legitimate defense during the fight.
The violence due to intolerance took on a new life in capital of antioquia. On this morning Saturday January 3the commune 60 (San Cristóbal) was the scene of a fight on a public street that ended with the death of Kevin Alvarezof 27 years.
With this case, only Medellin reaches the figure of six homicides in what has been running 2026.

The incident was reported through the emergency line 123. According to preliminary investigations and the analysis of security cameras in the sector, Álvarez would have been the one who initiated the physical attack against another citizen.
In the middle of the confrontation, the second man involved reportedly brandished a sharp weapon in an alleged act of self defensefatally wounding Álvarez.

Ongoing investigation
Although the injured man was rushed to a nearby healthcare center, the severity of the wound caused his death shortly after admission. Staff of the SIJIN of the National Policein coordination with the Attorney General’s Officecarried out the technical inspection of the body to begin the judicial investigations.
Although the film record suggests that the victim was the initial aggressor, the authorities are working to fully identify the other person involved and determine if his action falls within the self defense or whether he will face charges for homicide.
