The head of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, deleted his Twitter account @Luis_C_Sandoval; The agency said it was unaware of the reason for this measure, which leaves the official as the only cabinet member who does not participate in this network or any other. This occurs days after the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) indicated that citizens can exercise their right to petition through social networks.
When trying to search for your user on that platform, only a blank profile and the legend appear this account does not exist
.
Although the head of the Defense did not interact with his followers on Twitter, he did use this medium to disseminate his activities within the Sedena and forward messages from other government agencies. For example, it was in this way that he announced, in February 2021 and also a year later, that he had contracted covid-19.
Sources from the security cabinet indicated that the account was managed by him personally and he did not have a team to produce or publish his messages.
At the time it was deleted, General Sandoval’s account had close to 300,000 followers, surpassing those of his security cabinet colleagues.
In the case of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), its owner Rafael Ojeda Durán uses the Twitter account @AdmiralSriowhich is described as the officer of the Secretary of the Navy and high command of the Mexican Navy
and it takes turns between those who occupy the position to modify the username and their photograph when there is relief.
At the beginning of this month, the SJCN determined that the requests that citizens channel to any authority through Twitter do fit within the definition of the right to petition that is made in article 8 of the Constitution, as long as the requirements of that belongs to the owner of a government institution and uses it to interact promoting their official work.
