Before undergoing the life-threatening medical procedure, the young man did a live broadcast detailing his radical decision and said that he had become seriously ill five years ago after contracting a bacteria in a swimming pool in Melgar, Tolima, a highly sought-after tourist destination in the interior of the country.
«Nine years ago I had an accident. I traveled to see Millonarios in the city of Tuluá. And on the way back I had a traffic accident. I was left in a wheelchair. Five years ago I had a trip to Melgar with my two best friends, my son and I. I went into a pool and unfortunately I got a bacteria in my left gluteus that reached the bone. That is called osteomyelitis,» confessed the Los Comandos Azules fan who left this world on Friday, August 30.
In response to Acosta’s statements, the Secretary of Health of the Department of Tolima, Katherine Rengifo, spoke out and gave her opinion on what happened to the young man from Bogotá.
«Melgar is being affected by an issue that should be presented with more information. It is not a bacteria, when we talk about Candida (Auris) it is a fungus that is not acquired in the community, but in hospital environments… in clinics»said the official, supporting her argument with medical literature.
“This fungus is related to states of immunosuppression… when for some reason the defenses are lowered and my body cannot defend itself normally,” added the secretary about the case that has moved Colombians.
Rengifo defended the tourist activities that take place in swimming pools and recreational centers in Melgar “We have been working to ensure that Melgar, a sea of pools, is a safe destination for any tourist who wants to come and visit us.”
“We cannot say that in a pool in Melgar, that a bacteria” the health official considered in another interview with a local media outlet that can be seen below:
