Secretary General of the MAS: TSJ lost the great opportunity to save Venezuela

The general secretary of the MAS, Felipe Mujica, said that they have asked the Government, privately and through other means, to dialogue with all sectors of the country, but they maintain that they do not understand Jorge Rodríguez’s violent terms of calling the parties politicians

The general secretary of the MAS, Felipe Mujica, stated that in the ruling of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) the traditional legal procedures were not applied to the presidential election held on July 28.

«Other ways of doing things were used, so much so that, without the appeal filed by former candidate Enrique Márquez having been admitted, the sentence was issued. It is a total mess and we just have to wait for it to be published to know exactly what the Constitutional Court did,” he explained.

Although the ruling was announced on Friday, October 11, Mujica recalled that it is still not possible to access the TSJ website. Supposedly, the ruling ratifies in all its aspects the decision of the Electoral Chamber and even the way in which the results were announced by the National Electoral Council on the same day of the election.

“It is regrettable that the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ has not taken advantage of this opportunity to correct the wrongs that have arisen: the ruling ratifies the decision of the Electoral Chamber but insists that the National Electoral Council has the obligation to publish the results.”

Felipe Mujica assured that the country lost a great opportunity to produce a political solution and get out of the terrible mess in which we are immersed and indicated that the MAS will continue to insist on a political solution through dialogue with the national government.

“We have asked the government, privately and through other means, to dialogue with all sectors of the country, but we do not understand the violent terms of the president of the National Assembly (Jorge Rodríguez) to convene the political parties.”

The MAS considers that if there is no dialogue between the parties, uncertainty about what could happen on January 10, 2025 will grow, in addition to worsening the quality of life of Venezuelans.

“It seems that the government’s decision is not to talk about anything or with anyone until January 10, without worrying about the breakdown of relations with other countries that would lead to dangerous isolation.”

Mujica called for reflection so that the government understands that the autonomy of public powers is essential to preserve democracy.

«It makes no sense that a prosecutor, a comptroller and an ombudsman are members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela or another party. The same thing happens with the CNE and the TSJ. “These positions must be in the hands of Venezuelans with proven credentials,” he concluded.
