Following her House hearing, where she took the blame for her agents’ poor conduct in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned from her position.
“In light of recent events, it is with great regret that I have made the difficult decision to step down as director,” said Cheatle, who acknowledged on July 13, the day of the shooting, that the Secret Service “failed” in its mission to “protect our nation’s leaders.”
In his resignation letter, Cheatle said he made the “difficult” decision to leave the agency “with great regret” and that he does not want his departure to distract agents from their mission.
Following the shooting, which left Trump wounded in the ear and one person dead, Cheatle, who was appointed by Biden to lead the Secret Service in 2022, was emphatic that she would not leave her post.
