The Association of Secondary School Teachers (ADES) of Montevideo it is found in a 24 hour stoppage which will last all day on Thursday, due to the lack of budget for the University of the Republic (Udelar) in the last Rendering of Accounts. The trade union measure will affect Secondary and UTU classes in Montevideoexplained to The Observer the leader of ADES, Javier Iglesias.
In the publications referring to the strike, the union maintains its claim of 6% of the budget for education and 1% for research (also spread as 6+1). “The education of the people defends itself”indicates the guild in one of those images published on social networks.
In addition, this claim is connected to that of the loss of real salary that teachers claim during this governmentand adds to the request of “stop union persecution” to educators by the government, Iglesias said.
The strike was organized in conjunction with the National Federation of Secondary School Teachers (Phenapes)and has the support of the Association of Officials of UTU (Afutu).
ADES will conduct a general assembly at the PIT-CNT headquarters at noon, with a call at 12 noon and another one hour later. On the agenda, the General Assembly of Delegates (AGD) of Fenapes will discuss whether the strike extends 24 hours more, and then discuss “mobilizations and budget”detailed ADES in another publication.
Then at 6 p.m. there will be a “march of education unions and the student movement”in which students from the Federation of University Students of Uruguay will participate (FEUU), the Coordinator of the UTU Student Center (CCEU)Y “the vast majority of education unions”Iglesias said.
The mobilization will start in front of the Executive Towerwill pass by the Ministry of Economy, the central building of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), and will conclude its tour in the Legislative Palace.
