President Abinader assured that the central government will continue to support interventions such as Duarte with Paris to become a reality not only in Santo Domingo, but also in other cities in the country.

Second stage Duarte-Paris inaugurated

President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Colladohanded over this morning the second stage of the renovated intersection of Duarte Avenue with Paris Street, which will house street vendors in the area, with an investment of more than 202 million pesos, contributed through the Acción, Emprende y Transform.

The intervention included the construction of sidewalks, containers, purchases of urban furniture, lighting, paving, paving the streets, burying cables, painting, among other embellishment and decoration initiatives in the entire environment.

According to its promoters, it is the work with the greatest urban impact that has been carried out in the Dominican capital, which began 5 years ago when Collado was still mayor of the city.

Mayor Carolina Mejia said that this work will improve commerce and pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area, because two lanes will function on the avenue that had been lost due to the number of tables that previously occupied the sidewalks and streets.

Collado recalled that this intervention began thanks to a collaboration agreement that was made with the city of Guayaquil, where a similar urban renovation process took place, for which the peddlers of Santo Domingo traveled to the South American city together with Dominican architects and launched the intervention process, which opened the first stage in 2021 and concluded the second stage today.

“Today we fulfill our promise with street vendors and with the city; It’s over saying “that’s like the Duarte with Paris to refer to something dirty or disorganized, because as of Today the Duarte with Paris is a benchmark of organization and respect for human dignity,” said Collado.

The work was carried out with private funds in agreement with the Mayor’s Office of the National District and its owner, Carolina Mejía, as a result of the situation that the city was experiencing in 2020 as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.

“This work fills us with pride and all the peddlers in the area can be more than sure that from our mayor’s office we will continue working to preserve this great renovation together with them and also continue expanding the intervention areas,” said Mayor Mejía.

Minister Collado took the opportunity to thank all the street vendors for their willingness to make this dream of recovering an urban space in the city a reality. And in the same way, he recognized the architects Juan Mubarak, Shanei Peña and Amín Abel for the great work they did together with national and international authorities to be able to get the city of Santo Domingo to move towards the recovery of urban spaces for the people.

President Abinader assured that the central government will continue to support so that interventions like this become a reality not only in Santo Domingo, but also in other cities in the country.

He thanked the private sector companies that contributed the resources through the Fundación Acción, Emprende y Transforma so that Duarte con París shines with splendor.
