The Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) together with the Institute of Innovation in Biotechnology and Industry (IIBI) and the Agricultural Cooperative and Multiple Services of the Caribbean (COOPAC), opened the Second National Fair of the Dough Chestnut on Thursday.
The fair seeks to develop a massive planting program throughout the national geography. During the act, the general director of the IAD, Francisco Guillermo García, expressed his satisfaction at receiving all the representatives of the organizing institutions of the fair at the organization’s headquarters, after considering that the activity deserves the support of the country’s productive sectors .
The official said that the IAD is in the best position to make common cause with COOPAC so that mass chestnut producers increase their income and improve their quality of life.
He argued that following the guidelines of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to help agricultural producers throughout the country, the IAD contributed 40 tasks of land delivered to COOPAC for the cultivation of mass chestnuts. “Support for the sectors production has been one of the most successful aspects of the government headed by President Abinader, and those dedicated to the cultivation of mass chestnuts could not be the exception,” he said. He emphasized the land preparation operation that is being carried out nationwide, with the goal of completing some 320,000 tasks, of which 103,000 have been completed, achieving 32% progress so far.
On his side, the president of COOPAC, Julio Quezada, referred in his speech to the properties of the dough chestnut, its nutritional advantages, and what he understands as the convenience of the item being cultivated on a large scale in the Dominican Republic. .
