Haven’t you changed your ID for the adult one yet? If you have to go vote on December 4th in the Second Regional Election 2022Find out what you should do if you did not have the time to carry out the process to update the identity card issued by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).
A total of 6 million 892,945 citizens are empowered to vote in these elections and elect their respective governors and lieutenant governors. In the second round, the list of advisers is no longer there.
For election day, the ONPE will enable around 23,578 polling stations in 3,477 polling places, to which you must go carrying your ID, which is the only reliable instrument of identification. If you still have your yellow card, from when you were a minor, we will tell you what happens in that case.
WHY IS THE DNI IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO VOTE?
Having ID is important: it is a right and an obligation. It is the only reliable identification instrument when it contains up-to-date information on the main data of the citizen such as his address, his marital status, his photograph, his signature and his fingerprints.
You should always carry your ID and it is important that you report its loss or theft, since any illegal act that is done with it will be your responsibility.
CAN I VOTE WITH THE YELLOW DNI IN THE SECOND REGIONAL ELECTION ON DECEMBER 4?
If you are over 18 years of age and have not exchanged your yellow ID for a blue or electronic one, you will be allowed to vote in the December 4 elections. The Reniec extended the validity of the yellow National Identity Documents (DNI) with the aim of not limiting the participation of citizens in the electoral process.
You must bear in mind that the DNI will be valid until Sunday December 4, election day. This is established in chief executive resolution 000212-2022/JNAC/RENIEC, published in the official newspaper El Peruano. The ID of a minor will also be accepted.
“This extension will only take effect for the exercise of the constitutional right to vote”, is specified in the standard. In other words, it will not be valid for other procedures, such as notaries, for example.
WHY WILL THERE BE A SECOND ROUND IN THE REGIONAL ELECTIONS?
In a total of nine regions of the country, the second round will take place, because -in the elections on October 2, 2022- none of the candidates reached 30% of the valid votes to be elected to the position of regional governor.
In this case, in accordance with the Regional Elections Law (Law 27683), the two formulas with the highest number of votes from each region go to ballot. Elections must be held within 30 calendar days following the proclamation of the official counts. The list of directors is not going to the second round.
