Sebrae: small businesses account for 8 out of 10 jobs created

A survey carried out by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) shows that, in October, small businesses were responsible for around eight out of every ten new jobs created in the country. “For the tenth consecutive month, micro and small companies had a positive balance in the generation of jobs in the country”, evaluated Sebrae, through a note.

In the accumulated of 2022, the country accounts for 2.3 million new jobs – of these, 1.661 million (71.6%) through micro and small companies. The participation of medium and large companies in the generation of jobs is 22%, with 513 thousand hires.

Sectors

Among the seven sectors of the economy analyzed, micro and small companies had a positive balance in all, while medium and large companies registered a negative balance in civil construction and mineral extraction. In the area of ​​services, for example, the balance of hiring of small businesses was 60.2 thousand, while medium and large companies increased their staff by 29.1 thousand new hires.

Hiring by small businesses in commerce was also much higher: almost five times more than that of medium and large businesses – 39.1 thousand against 8.3 thousand, respectively.

In the accumulated result for 2022, micro and small companies in the service sector were the ones that hired the most, with 850,781 new jobs, in addition to 274,679 jobs in civil construction and 262,143 in commerce.
