«At my door there is a commission that has identified itself as from Sebin. They say they are going to do an interview. I am going to voluntarily go to that interview. Let’s hope to see what the consequences of this are. There had already been some warnings in this regard. I’m going to show my face, I have nothing to fear. Those of us who defend freedom of expression and democracy are willing to show our faces at any time. “My family will be reporting anything that happens in this regard,” he says in the video.
Nicmer Evans has been repeatedly harassed by state security agencies. In 2020, he was arrested and detained for 51 days, accused of “instigating hatred”, until he was released under precautionary measures.
The new arrest occurs in a context of recurring complaints of persecution against journalists, analysts, human rights defenders and political leaders critical of the national Executive, as well as the use of broad criminal figures to justify arrests without a court order.
