An opportunity to serve and train in the discipline of fire
A new call was opened to join the seasonal Fire Department, an event that year after year arouses the interest of dozens of young people and adults who seek to join the service during the months of greatest risk of fires in the country.
Principal Officer Rocío Benítez, Melo Fire Chief explained the details of the process and highlighted that, beyond the physical requirement, it is a comprehensive training experience that combines discipline, technical knowledge and citizen commitment.
A DEMANDING PROOF OF INCOME
The selection process includes a physical evaluation that, according to Benítez, seeks to measure the resistance and operational capacity of the candidates in the face of the demands of working in forest or structural fires.
“A strength test is carried out with a weighted backpack, simulating a real situation, such as carrying a body or moving equipment. There are approximately four kilometers that must be completed in a certain time. It is not only about strength, but also about checking the applicant’s resistance to continued effort,” he explained.
THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL TRAINING
Once the entry stage has been completed, applicants begin a period of intensive training, which combines theoretical and practical aspects. During the first fifteen days, participants receive training on laws, regulations and general provisions of the Fire Service.
“The first days we work on everything that is the regulations, so that they understand how the body works and the responsibilities that it entails.”“The official explained that this stage is key to guaranteeing order and discipline, two fundamental pillars in operational work. “They enter a system with clear structure and hierarchies, where orders must be followed and procedures respected. This ensures that each intervention is carried out in a safe and coordinated manner,” he pointed out.
Seasonal service offers the opportunity to join an institution with a strong vocation for service, where solidarity and discipline go hand in hand. “Many of those who enter for the first time as seasonal workers end up finding a true vocation in Firefighters. A few years later they return, this time as troops, with solid training and a deep understanding of the role we play,” he commented.
AN OPEN OPPORTUNITY
The call is aimed at men and women of legal age who meet the physical and medical requirements established by the National Fire Department. No previous experience is required, but a proactive attitude, willingness to work as a team and commitment to public service is required.
“It is an opportunity for those who feel the desire to contribute, to help, and also to learn a profession that demands but returns a lot. Applicants must know that being a firefighter, even for one season, implies commitment, respect and dedication,” Benitez stated.
