On average, 7 people disappear daily in Bogotá

According to an investigation by the councilor of Bogotá, by the Radical Change party, Rolando González, during the year 2021 in the capital of the country there were 2,446 cases of missing persons, with a growth of 20% compared to the year 2020, when the figure had closed with 2,007 people.

This means that, on average, every day seven people are victims of this situation. In the age range, the most affected are minors, whose figure grew by 40%, from 738 to more than 1,012 cases.

Likewise, young adults (18 to 45 years old) represent the other 40% of cases. And those over 45 years old 20%. By gender, 47% of the victims are women.

By days of the week, in 2021, on Mondays there were 345 missing persons, on Tuesdays there were 360, on Wednesdays 313, on Thursdays 317, on Fridays 407, on Saturdays 420 and on Sundays 284. That means that at the beginning of the Weekends, Fridays and Saturdays increase the frequency of this phenomenon in Bogotá.

Five localities concentrated these events during the previous year: Ciudad Bolívar (280 cases), Kennedy (260 cases), Bosa (200 cases), San Cristóbal and Suba (180, respectively).

According to the official figures of the National Institute of Legal Medicine, only 40% (976 cases) appeared alive, 79 of the reports made appeared dead (3%) and the rest (57%) are still missing.

“On social networks, every day we see hundreds of reports of missing persons, this is a situation that should draw the attention of the authorities, especially the Secretary of Security,” González emphasizes.

In 2022, the figures do not give up. As of February of this year, the report revealed by González notes that there are already 311 reported victims. Of these, 99 turned up alive, three were reported dead and 207 are still missing.

Councilman González’s complaint becomes relevant when this weekend three cases of missing persons were revealed in Bogotá, where criminals used scopolamine to drug the victims.
