SDO councilors ask to investigate the mayor

The Council of Aldermen of the Mayor’s Office of Santo Domingo Oeste (ASDO) denied that it had accused Mayor Francisco Peña of transferring items from the investment account to the payroll, a fact that constitutes a violation of the Law 176-07 of the City Councils and the National District.

However, the organization asked the Comptroller General of the Republic to issue its considerations and recommendations to that local oversight body, regarding Mayor Peña’s proposal.

In a press conference, the 15 councilors of the three major political parties rejected that they hinder the provision of municipal services, as members of the municipal administration have denounced.

They explained that on December 31 of last year, the municipal budget corresponding to 2026 was approved, for RD$1,549 million 550 thousand, in which the sum of RD$464 million 865 thousand, 30% of the original amount, was allocated for the payment of payroll.

They pointed out that on day two, Mayor Francisco Peña submitted to the Council of Aldermen a budget modification proposal, in which he requested to transfer 10 million pesos from the investment account to the personnel account, which was rejected.

They explained that the purpose of the aforementioned request was to cover the account corresponding to salaries, which they considered a violation of article 22 of Law 176-07, which prohibits the reduction of items intended for investments, modifying the aforementioned article by Law 75-25.

In a document read to the press by the president of the Council of Aldermen, Joan Manuel Herrera Martínez, he establishes that the position of that building body has the sole purpose of guaranteeing legality, transparency and correct use of public resources.

Meanwhile, the Press Department of the Santo Domingo Oeste Mayor’s Office agreed to send a response on the issue, but, until closing, it did not arrive.
