A bronze representation of the Cuban poet Nicholas Guillen Batista was inaugurated this Sunday in his native Camaguey120 years after his birth according to official media reports on the Island.

Although it is not considered an exact or hyper-realistic representation of the writer, it has his main symbols and characteristics: the deep gaze, the pen and paper in hand, and the inevitable guayabera, added the sculptor.
The creation of the sculpture of the writer in his hometown was a joint task in which, in addition to the sculptor, institutions such as the Nicolás Guillén Foundation (FNG) and the Office of the City Historian participated, the publication specifies.
It is a “deserved and fair tribute, a moment of indispensable communion for all, as well as a turning point in the sculptural tradition of Camagüey”, commented Rebeca Burón Marín, professor at the Branch of the University of the Arts and researcher, who kept in in the past a close relationship of friendship with the National Prize for Literature, the report points out.
In addition and as the culmination of the XIII Colloquium and International Festival Nicolás Guillénan appointment recently concluded in the town, the birthplace of the outstanding intellectual was reopened, which will serve as the headquarters of the aforementioned Foundation, as well as the Sensemayá literary café, says the ACN.
Guillén, author of fundamental works such as Motives of the Son and Songoro Cosongo, Considered today the National Poet of Cuba, he was born on July 10, 1902 and, throughout his extensive career, he marked universal poetry thanks to the treatment of racial and social problems, as well as the musicality of his verses.
