Felipao leaves the position of technical director of Ath. Paranaense to be the new coach of At. mineiro

Scolari ended his career as a coach at the end of 2022… but now he returns by surprise to direct the Frenchman

Luiz Felipe Scolari is the new coach of At. Mineiro, which is still a major surprise. The 74-year-old veteran coach had announced that he was ending his long career of more than 40 years at the end of 2022. He did so by reaching the final of the Copa Libertadores, where they could not beat Flamengo (1-0) in a final with highly controversial arbitration.

At the beginning of this year, felipao joined the ‘Furacao’ sports structure as technical director, while one of his assistants, paulo turrawas promoted to the position of coach.

Good old Scolari has not been in the offices for even half a year. In recent weeks, offers had poured in to make his retirement a hiatus, and he reneged on his promise never to manage another Brazilian team again.

And, in the end, he has accepted one of them: that of At. Mineiro, who has one of the best squads in Brazil and South America, and who opts to win the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirao.

The Frenchman was without a coach since the bizarre departure of Eduardo Coudetwho said goodbye to the squad without notifying the sports management and board that he was leaving the traditional Belo Horizonte club.

There were two candidates to replace him: the Portuguese Bruno Lagewithout a club since October 2022 when he was sacked from Wolverhampton and scolari. The Portuguese coach doubted and the leadership of At. Mineiro closed quickly with the former Brazilian coach.

Felipao’s debut with At. Mineiro will be next Wednesday, the 21st, in Volta Redonda in the match against Fluminense corresponding to the 11th day of the Brasileirao. El Galo is currently in fourth place with 18 points, six behind the leader, the surprising Botafogo led by the Portuguese louis castro.
