The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) pointed out that yesterday’s violent actions “distort the legitimate purpose of any demonstration and violate the atmosphere of respect essential for democratic dialogue” and reported that its headquarters building was damaged.
In a statement, he reiterated his full respect for freedom of expression, assembly and demonstration, because dissent – he noted – is a fundamental part of a democratic society and all voices, especially those of young people, contribute to the construction of better conditions for the country.
However, the SCJN expressed its concern and condemned the expressions of violence that “included attacks on security elements, damage to the facilities and attempts at violent and unauthorized entry into the building.”
