Scientist demands concrete changes and not just vain meetings

Carlos Gay García, researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change at UNAM, criticized the fact that no concrete changes have been made in the world in order to address global warming, despite the holding of 28 climate summits, therefore which urged the application of actions at a global level to mitigate the effects.

When commemorating the World Day against Climate Change in the Dr. Julián Adem auditorium, of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Gay García denounced that mechanisms have been promoted, such as the green or circular economy, from which only the some countries due to fears of reducing the production and marketing of inputs on the planet. He acknowledged that only some changes have been achieved in the almost 30 years of the COPs, such as the recognition of indigenous communities and the promotion of renewable energies.

He highlighted that Mexico has had an interest in pollutant emissions since 1995 by participating in the first COP, in Berlin, where he was a member of the Mexican delegation, and showed that the current summits have been held in oil-producing countries.

Francisco Estrada Porrúa, coordinator of the Climate Change Research Program, warned that we are already close to reaching the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era. which is very dangerous for the planet.
