Schools can only be closed by the Minsa and the Meduca, says the Minister of Education

After the directors of several educational establishments in the country decided to close the doors of these schools, due to the increase in cases of covid-19, the Minister of Education Maruja Gorday de Villalobos clarified that the closure of schools is only a decision that It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in conjunction with the Ministry of Education (Meduca).

Gorday de Villalobos referred to the closure of 2 educational establishments, one in the province of Herrera and the other in Panama, who made this decision to suspend face-to-face classes due to infections by covid-19, the minister pointed out that it is important to be clear that the decisions The closure of schools is issued by the Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Meduca and despite the increase in cases in educational centers, it stated that schools must remain open.

The fact that five groups from a school of 30 or 4 from a school of 20 may have had three or four infected students, what is the information we have, does not imply that the school will be closed, the minister said, assuring that there would be talk of a cluster when an educational center has infections in all rooms, but in these cases it has not been registered in this way and it could also be registered when there are 70% of infected people and this has not yet happened.

The latest information provided by the Ministry of Education states that about 1,243 accumulated cases are what are reported in educational centers.

This report detailed that 40% of these cases correspond to teaching and administrative students and that the main focus of contagion is found in adolescent students and middle school groups.
